07 | DURING + AFTER: The Mental Health Side of Evictions

Eviction isn’t only a housing crisis – it can also take a serious emotional toll on individuals and families. In this episode of Eviction Stories & Steps, Circles Cobb Executive Director Barbara Garner talks with Chris James, Mental Health Practitioner and Chair of Health & Wellness at the Atlanta Black Chambers, about the mental health impact of housing instability and eviction – from the stress and uncertainty experienced by adults to the effects a housing crisis can have on children and families. They discuss coping during difficult moments, finding emotional and mental health support, and continuing the recovery process after the immediate crisis has passed. The conversation also highlights resources including Cumberland Counseling and Healtoday.app. If you’re struggling emotionally while facing eviction or housing instability, you are not alone. Asking for support can be part of taking care of yourself and your family as you work through what comes next. Eviction Stories & Steps from Circles Cobb brings together people with lived experience and community experts to help Cobb County residents better understand eviction, find resources and know what steps they can take before, during and after an eviction.
